“© BETTER LIFE Marciel’s bio is impressive. She’s a TV presenter, international curve model, actress, life coach, and now the face of Catrice Cosmetics. But her proudest titles are wife, mom to a two-month- old son, and outspoken ambassador for authenticity. “Even though my time isn’t my own anymore and everything has to be planned around my baby Halki’'s needs, | still feel very much like myself,” she says. “Motherhood hasn't erased who | am. | just have an extra skill on my life CV now: Mommy.” Before the sleepless nights and nappies, Marciel studied Drama at Stellenbosch University and went on to complete her honours in Psychology. “I've always loved performing and the entertainment business, but I’m also fascinated by people - what breaks us, how we heal, and what helps us rise again,” she says. “That's why both subjects felt like the right fit.” Her big break came in 2015 when she made the Top 12 in Miss South Africa - and suddenly found herself in the middle of a very public weight-loss journey. While “MOTHERHOOD HASN'T ERASED WHO!1AM.! JUST HAVE AN EXTRA SKILL ON MY LIFE CV NOW: MOMMY.” the media fixated on her body, Marciel used the attention to speak about self-love and body acceptance. “When | entered Miss SA, | was self- conscious about my weight and started dieting and exercising,” she says. “I lost 14kgs in four months, but that doesn't mean you suddenly love and accept yourself. It takes time to get used to a new version of your body and connect that with your self-worth. Your weight will never define your value. Weight changes, but self-worth shouldn't.” The value of self-worth set the tone for everything that followed. Instead of chasing perfection, Marciel started showing up as herself. Soon she was signing modelling contracts and boarding flights to Germany, Milan, New York, and the Maldives. Her 20s were a blur of travel and work, establishing her as one of the most sought-after curve models of the time. From there came acting, with roles in two feature films, and then television, hosting Boer Soek ‘n Vrou for four seasons. “With every season of filming, | was away from home for many weeks. 41 weeks over four years in total,” she says. “It made me appreciate my own marriage and a supportive husband so much more, as it wasn't always easy doing long distance, but it was so worth it to be part of a show that really changes lives. Fifteen farmers have gotten married out of my four seasons, and 12 babies have been born.”
