BETTER LIFE HERE'S QUITE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SMALL FLUFFY DOG AND A LARGE POWERFUL HORSE WHEN IT COMES TO INTRODUCING A HORSE TO A SMALL CHILD FOR EMOTIONAL HEALING. WE ASKED EQUINE INTERVENTIONIST SANDY KENNEDY HOW ONE GOES ABOUT DOING THIS. “Yes - it can be quite scary for a small child. The goal is to establish a rapport and trust between the child and the horse and ultimately present a very calm and predictable horse. | have a small wagon which my mini horses pull. It's a great ice breaker for nervous kids. It's important that both children (and adults) get to learn about horses and stay in control. One example is a child with autism who struggled to be around any animal, especially if the animal made a sound (such as dogs barking). With special care such as ear plugs, a little time, trust and patience she has overcome her sensory sensitivities with animals. She is now riding on her own, super confident working with the mini horses and absolutely adores dogs and cats, giving them the most heartfelt cuddles and love!” Text Lee Currie
