“© BETTER LIFE GATHER A SUPPORT NETWORK In the early days, it's important to have willing, ready and able support from family and friends. Try to gather three or four relatives or close friends who you can count on and are happy to help when needed, especially during the first 12 weeks. Let them know exactly how they can help, whether it's holding the babies while you cook or tackle laundry or take a shower, or baby sit for an hour or two while you do shopping and errands - if people know what you need, they are always more than willing to help. SYNC SCHEDULES It may take a while, but getting your twins on the same feeding and napping schedule is essential for a new mom's survival. If you're breast feeding, consider investing in a tandem feeding pillow - available at Dis-Chem Baby City - alternatively breast feed one baby while bottle feeding the other and then swop them around. Remember to alternate breasts for each baby too, so you keep your body in balance. If you are bottle feeding both babies, lay them in their baby seats and hold up the bottles for them. Eventually they will learn to hold their own bottles. Then, burp one baby at a time by carrying him or her over your shoulder, while the other twin sits propped up against pillows on a bed. Also, when one baby wakes up to feed, do wake up the other one and feed her too - it’s the one time when the rule of never waking a sleeping baby can be broken. If you don’t do this, you will run yourself ragged trying to meet two different schedules. Importantly, put babies to sleep at the same time. Ideally let them sleep together in the same cot, until they run out of space at about six months. Generally twins don't wake each other up and seem to be comforted sleeping together. Should one wake, don't grab her immediately to stop waking her sister. Twins also tend to settle themselves more easily and are mostly better sleepers than singles. Once your twins are sleeping through the night, you may be tempted to put them in separate rooms so they don't disturb each other - but rather keep them sleeping in the same room as they are used to each other's noises already. Otherwise they may learn to only fall asleep in total silence, which can then be another issue to deal with. Ae da KEEPING LIFE AS SURESS*FREE @ AS POSSIBLE
