BETTER CHILD LOWERING YOUR CHILD’S FEVER In most cases, a child with a fever can be treated at home. Over-the-counter medications usually do the trick to lower your child's fever. Speak to your Dis-Chem pharmacist about available options like Panado Paediatric Syrup or Calpol. You can also help them by making sure your child is hydrated with plenty of water or diluted fruit juices to replenish the fluid lost due to the fever. If breastfeeding, continue to do so. Dress your child in loose, light clothing as overdressing and over bundling can prevent body heat from escaping and can cause the temperature to rise. Try to prevent shivering with clothing, light blankets or warm baths and, importantly, ensure your child gets plenty of sleep and rest. + Fever is not an illness. It is a symptom, or sign that your body is fighting an illness or infection. Treating your child's fever will not help the body get rid of the infection any faster; it simply will relieve discomfort associated with fever. Do not give your child aspirin, as it has been linked to a serious, potentially fatal disease, called Reye syndrome.
